The Washington Post Company is a diversified education and media company. The Company s Kaplan subsidiary provides a wide variety of educational services, both domestically and outside the United States. The Company s media operations consist of the ownership and operation of cable television systems, newspaper publishing (principally The Washington Post) and television broadcasting (through the ownership and operation of six television broadcast stations). The Company launched two new products during the year ended December 31, 2011, Washington Post Social Reader (Social Reader) and Trove. During 2011, Kaplan Ventures acquired Insight Schools, Inc., In May 2011, it acquired Franklyn Scholar and Carrick Education Group. In June 2011, it acquired Structuralia. Kaplan sold Kaplan Virtual Education (KVE) in July 2011 and Kaplan Compliance Solutions (KCS) in October 2011. On February 9, 2012, Kaplan Ventures sold the Kaplan Learning Technologies business (KLT).
